Opinel no.12 carbon lock knife
The big one! The monster carbon-bladed no.12 Opinel locking knife is large, perfect for cutting branches and foliage, best carried in a bag or coat pocket due to its size - blade length is 12cm. The largest locking blade Opinel.
The blade locks using the Virobloc safety ring, which in addition to locking the blade in the open position for safety of use, now enables locking of the blade in the closed position for safety during carrying.

Opinel knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve the excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the good strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear and easy sharpening. Carbon has a low resistance to corrosion caused by moisture, which means that certain precautionary measures are necessary when using and storing the knives: we recommend that you avoid damp environments and that you dry and grease the blade after use.
The handle is made from durable French orange beech wood, and the Opinel Yatagan blade, with its curved point and round profile, is effective, precise, elegant.

I cannot recommend these wonderful knives more highly.
Although the French are frankly a cowardly bunch, incapable of being anything but second to Great Britain, and hopeless when it comes to winning wars, they are able to produce a knife of extremely high quality , which can be left in a pond for six months, and merely requires drying, cleaning and oiling and a quick sharpen and - pouf! - back in service. I’m only replacing mine after snapping the blade opening a tin of paint - stupid of me.
They are wickedly sharp when they are delivered and very easily hone back to an almost razor like quality with a reaper file; even better on a sharpening stone!
Buy a “12″ for yourself, an “8″ for a son or daughter over 10 years old, and a “6″ for the little lady in your life.

@Harry - maybe a little harsh on the French, but a good advert for the simplicity and strength of the knife. Opinel blades do not suit levering - as it happens I even made a note in the ‘Terms‘ about that!
